Skates? good for running?
personally I like the Salomon%26#039;s skates, they are a great! just google it because I dont have the website.
Reply:u mean skateboarding?

well u shouldn%26#039;t skate FOR improving ur running. It%26#039;ll get boring. Skateboarding is a very fun sport and it sure will improve ur running and balance. i%26#039;ve been skating for 3 months and it really changed me a lot.

and to get started, u have to get a skateboard, of course :D

do not ever buy anything cheaper than 89.99 cauz they%26#039;r so crappy and dont last long. u should get a blank deck cauz it%26#039;s cheaper and u can decorate it urself. Get some decent trucks like phantom or thunder or destructo. wheels doesn%26#039;t really matter. get smaller wheels if u%26#039;r gonna skate street. bearings u should get bones, ppl say it%26#039;s the best. i dont really know though. Well that sums it up. have fun skateboarding :D

Question about inline skates vs. aggressive skates???

So I have been skating all of my life and I want to get a new pair of skates. i was thinking that i might want to learn some tricks and grinds and stuff like that but not all the time. so my question is should i buy inline skates bc the wheels are bigger and they are better for long distances (this is probably what I will do more) or should i buy aggressive skates? The aggressive skates just look so much better:) and what if I bought a lighter aggressive skate would that be ok. sorry for being long and drawn out, any suggestions would be great. thanks

Question about inline skates vs. aggressive skates???
regardless of what type of aggro skates you get they weigh about 5-6 pounds each skate. so your going to have to learn to jump with an extra 12 lbs of shoes with wheels on to a rail. inline skates are a bit lighter but only built for riding around. while aggro skates have smaller wheels but are heavy because the frames that hold the wheel and the mold of the boot is more dense and harder cause your going to take those skates and beat them to the ground. there built for it.

its up to you. i have been skating for 9 years and the feeling i feel grinding the rail is unexplainable!! i love aggressive skating.

Aggresive skates (again...)?

I skated about 2 or 3 years ago but ended up quitting but I want to start up again. When I use to skate, I always liked Salomons. Over the course of my skating years I had 2 different pairs of Salomons and liked them both as they were both extremely similar. I had tried K2s on at a dealer and didn%26#039;t like them, same with Rollerblade. However, I have found out Salomon no longer makes skates so I think it%26#039;s time I find something new (and hopefully even better).

I%26#039;ve been looking into skates and I think I%26#039;ve narrowed it down to 3 pairs that seem the best--Razors Shima 7, Remedyz 07 two, and Deshi kicks 3--but I can%26#039;t decide between them.

What do you recommend? Have any of you tried the pairs I listed? I%26#039;m willing to pay as much as I have to because I want the best. Right now I%26#039;m leaning toward the Razors but I have no dealers in my area that sell them or the others so I can try them on and compare.

I posted this before and only got one useless response. Hoping for better now.

Aggresive skates (again...)?
You know i%26#039;m pretty much in the same boat as you, I quit aggresive skating about 4 years ago and holy crap I didn%26#039;t even know they changed the look of skates all together. but jsut so you know I found asite that sells salomons so check it out maybe it%26#039;ll help.

New skates part 2?

Sorry about the confusion on the last question.l let me upgrade it.

Before I had a size 11 reidell skates that I got online. (I know my feet are huge I wear size 11) then I went to see a real skate guy to get fitted for new ones. My old skates had very long, flat blades and were really hard to spin on. I am getting a new blade and new boot. The blade will have a rocker on it, and a toe pick that is closer to the ice. I am worried about the toe pick because I recently cut myself in the shin with my last skates with my toe pick and had to get stiches. I have big fall-phobia. The skate guy said It would be efforttless to spin on these blades, I really dont know if I believe him. If anyone has some advice or tips for me plz let me know. Thx

New skates part 2?
HUGE twilight fan . . . Do you see the row of icons that starts with the star . . . go to the last icon where the pencil thing is and go to %26quot;add details%26quot;. Please let us know what blades you had before (if you got the blade separate or if it%26#039;s one that came with the skates) and what blade (brand and model) the skate guy is trying to sell you. And what level you skate in. That way we can help better!!

Your old blades probably had a rocker on them . . . but they may have been entry level blades . . . good to start with - but not to do more advanced moves. I started with a Riedell skate set . . . the blades took me through some jumps and spins. I started slipping with toe jumps with the picks . . . and my spins were going nowhere. So when I switched to a higher model blade (toe picks bigger, closer to the ice), yes, the skating improved GREATLY. I wouldn%26#039;t say spins were %26quot;effortless%26quot; . . . it%26#039;s still a lot of work on the skaters part no matter what skate/blade you get . . . but it does help when your equipment does not fail you!

Oh - don%26#039;t get blades that are way advanced (like triple/quad rated) if you%26#039;re not there yet. They have monster toepicks . . . and it%26#039;s really not necessary to have them at this point (in fact it could hinder the learning process). Get one that%26#039;s most appropriate for your level.

Falling . . . well, you know it happens with skating - it%26#039;s inevitable. Sometimes it%26#039;s good to practice falling just so your body can learn to react when a %26quot;real%26quot; fall happens. Do low two foot dips, shoot the ducks, or lunges and get accustomed to relaxing when falling. If you fear it and tense up, you could injure yourself even more if you fall.

I had stitches from a toe pick incident too!! It was on the side of my knee . . . and I didn%26#039;t do it! My friend came up to say %26quot;hi%26quot; and he fell, rolled on the ice, and kicked the side of knee in the process. He had %26quot;skate set%26quot; blades (small toe picks), but that was enough to go through my leggings, tights, and to my leg. Anything can happen on the ice . . . sometimes they are probably just flook incidents!!

Well, hope this helps!! Good luck!!
Reply:What blade did you used to have? and what blade will you be getting. Most blades that have a decent rocker and larger toe picks don%26#039;t drag on the ice. It may take some getting used to learn how to skate on them better, but I don%26#039;t think it should be too big of a problem, it sounds like you are probably getting better boots and blades than you had before. Good luck!

PS don%26#039;t worry I have big feet too, I wear size 11 (shoe size, my skates are sz. 9)
Reply:NEVER GET SKATES ONLINE!!!

I am a competitive figure skater and i belong to the Atlanta Figure skating club in alpharetta georgia, i am in intermediate, ( 3 more levels to go untill the olympics!! Yay!! ),

I am 12 years old and i have been skating for 8 years. I also just landed my double lutz. anyway, i wear SP terri boots and i have VISION blades. I highly reccomend either vison blades or paramount blades. Paramount blades come in different colors, and i used them before and it really is effortless to spin!!!!

Paramount Blades-

these are the colors they come in

Chrome, icy pink, icy blue, icy purple, snow white

and jet black.

But the rocker on paramount blades dont last for long so i think that you should talk to your coach about vision blades

Aggressive skates?
You might be able to find old Salomon%26#039;s on eBay or some of the online shops listed below on clearance. They do still make skates, they just don%26#039;t sell them in the US anymore...not enough support. So...if you%26#039;re looking do switch to something else and you loved Salo%26#039;s, I%26#039;d recommend Razors and here%26#039;s why...

Remz don%26#039;t have near the support that skates like Razors and Salos have. They%26#039;re super flexy and are a totally different feel. In fact, they%26#039;re sorta like K2s as you have to lean pretty far forward to balance. I haven%26#039;t tried Deshis on since they first came out, however when I did, they had some of the same problems with support. And honestly, I think they%26#039;re UGLY!

So, Razors. The Shimas will last you a while like the Salos probably did and will have a nice smooth ride. For me, Razors are some of the most comfortable skates I%26#039;ve ever owned. I think you%26#039;ll also find them lighter than your Salos were. Love the Razors. And they fit pretty true to shoe size so go with that.

Check out some of the online shops below and if you have any questions, let me know.

Good luck and glad you%26#039;re getting back into it!
Reply:Forget the boots. Pick up a skateboard ,I skate darkstar and baker. Toymachine and girl also make decent boards. While youre at it ,check out Lupe Fiascos Food and Liquor. Its a good cd to listen while youre falling down and thrashing your elbow or gashing your chin.

Should figure skates rust after one time skating?

I just got my figure skates from my skate pro shop at the rink and after I skated I sat down wiped off the ice and put my soakers on. I took off my skates and carried them to the car. Then when I got home I noticed that one of the screws in the heel was cricked in the heel! And I only skated for 35 min-1hr! Thereisn%26#039;t that much rust and I know i can get them sharpened but that%26#039;s so weird!

Should figure skates rust after one time skating?
The rust is on the screw or the blade? You definitely have to wipe down around the base of the blade where the screws are. Rust really isn%26#039;t about never drying your blades, it really only takes one time - although that sounds MIGHTY fast and maybe it was already wet. In general, it sounds like you didn%26#039;t dry up top enough and got a spot up there. I would take it to the pro shop and let them see if it%26#039;s bad enough to warrant a new screw. You don%26#039;t want your blade becoming loose. And dry them as well as you can every time! The soakers will help but they are to catch any condensation that builds up from the blades still being cold. They won%26#039;t help if the blade is too wet to start with.

Reply:When buying skates you need to be careful. You should ask the seller the following, what brand they are, what they are made out of, where they came from (country), and what the blades are made of. Blades should be stainless steel, but not all skates are made of stainless steel. Stainless steel does not rust easily, which is why they are so good for skating, and it gives you an edge. Chances are you were ripped off for your money, and were sold a cheap brand of skates. Normally Pro Shops are an okay place to buy skates, but not every pro shop is great. try buying skates online, i perfer to buy skates at the USFS website.
Reply:my skates never rusted in all the years I skated.
